Hello Freshgreens Family,
What a glorious Monday it is! Winter finally made its debut over the weekend, and we welcomed the chill with a much-needed lazy time at home. On the school drive this morning, the snow-covered mountains took my breath away. The kids and I couldn’t stop “oohing” and “ahhing” at the gorgeous view. Listening to Tori Amos was giving the vibe it deserved.
I’m feeling a sense of clarity today—maybe it’s because I finally took down the Christmas tree or because the Lunar New Year is just around the corner. Either way, I’m embracing it. Last night, we celebrated a little early with my soul sister and her family, a cherished tradition. As much as I didn't want to leave the house and drive in the rain, I also didn't want to break our tradition. I'm so glad that we went. Delicious food and wonderful family energy is just what we needed.
This week, we’re celebrating the Lunar New Year—the Year of the Wood Snake! This year promises wisdom, adaptability, and transformation, and I am here for all of it. In honor of the occasion, our produce list features vegetables that symbolize spring, renewal, energy, progress, and wealth.
Here’s what’s fresh this week:
Baby Bok Choy This small, leafy green symbolizes wealth, luck, and longevity. It was my favorite dish at our celebration last night—simple and delicious. I’ve found a recipe similar to what we enjoyed, and for an extra pop of flavor, try adding ginger: StirFry Baby Bok Choy .
Chinese Broccoli (Gai Lan) With its bright green leaves, Chinese broccoli represents wealth and good fortune for the year ahead. I love its balance of bitter greens and firm stalks. Here’s a classic preparation I adore: Chinese Broccoli with Garlic Recipe.
Taiwanese Cauliflower (Flowering Cauliflower) This unique variety of cauliflower features small flower buds and tender, light green stems with a milder, slightly sweet flavor. I’m excited to experiment more with it! Try this simple Roasted Chinese Cauliflower Recipe or go bold with this Chinese Cauliflower Stir Fry Recipe.
Shiitake Mushrooms Often gifted during Lunar New Year, shiitake mushrooms symbolize wealth and prosperity. We made “money bag” wonton dumplings with a shiitake mushroom and ginger stir fry last night—each dumpling packed with intentions for prosperity. Try it yourself with this Money Bag Dumplings Recipe. Or, for a heartier dish, check out this Mushroom andGinger Udon Noodle Stir Fry Recipe. It looks incredible
Olive Bread from Bread Lounge LA This one’s a little off-theme, but Paulo had a craving we couldn’t ignore! Packed with chunks of Kalamata olives and salty goodness, this bread is addictive and pairs beautifully with soups or a light salad.
As we step into this Lunar New Year, we wish you prosperity, wealth, success, and joy in all that you do.
